A panacea is a solution or remedy for all difficulty or disease, a “cure-all,” magical potion, elixir of life. Panacea was the ancient Greek goddess of universal health. She was said to possess a potion that healed the sick.
Throughout history alchemists, healers, and scientists alike have strived to find or create a potion to cure all ills, the enigmatic panacea. Many imposters have been marketed; from tree sap, to ginseng, to snake oil. Today we regard green juice, bone broth, and anything gluten free in the same manner.
The health world today is plagued with misinformation, catchy marketing, and fashionable health practices. Our country is becoming more and more health obsessed and yet the leading causes of death in the United States are what we refer to as “diseases of affluence”: heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.
We pour money into research to try to cure, fix, or heal sufferers of these diseases. Yet we aren’t doing much to avoid them in the first place. Would you rather take a few extra seconds to wear your seat belt, or potentially deal with the physical disability a serious car accident could leave you with. Prevention is really quite simple, but it may not be normal, easy, or sadly even inexpensive.
The world is sick, with many, many ailments, and we are trying to treat these ailments with pseudo-panaceas. We are stuck in a cycle of get sick, take medication, get better, then get sick again. Sadly large pharmaceutical corporations profit from keeping us just health enough, but certainly not thriving. The world is not aware that we can prevent, treat, and cure these illnesses with more sustainable practices.
My philosophy is simple: knowledge begets prevention, and prevention begets sustainable health. You know the age-old saying, “knowledge is power.” How about: knowledge is health.
I believe in a health revolution where people around the world are empowered to learn about the anatomy and physiology that makes then uniquely human. Through understanding their own body they are able to make more informed health decisions. They receive unbiased information regarding movement, nutrition, and mental health from credible scientific research. They chose to live in a way that prevents disease rather than promote it and deal with is later.
Here is what I offer you as a modern day panacea: knowledge. Through clear, credible knowledge regarding health each individual has a choice to either live, or thrive.
